About The Event

This exhibition focuses on the act of drawing and how it is integrated into paintings and other mixed media work. The first iteration of this show appeared in a major exhibition at the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana from January 20 – April 2, 2023. The Dalles Art Center is pleased to present this second display of works from the 2023 show in addition to more recent paintings by the artist—Cheryl H. Hahn, who grew up in the Midwest but has made the northwest her home since 1995.

Opening Night Party, Thursday, July 11th, 5 - 7 pm.

The artists states:

“The act of drawing has always inspired me. The paintings and drawings of this show are created with a variety of media including graphite, charcoal, acrylic, watercolor, marker, collage, ink and oil; they feature many drawing configurations such as dots, dashes, rhythmic patterns, and sweeping arcs that portray a world that is always in motion. I want people to be moved by my paintings and drawings in positive ways. I end my remarks with the following quote by the artist Hilma af Klint: “Every time I succeed in finishing one of my sketches, my understanding of humanity, animals, plants, minerals, or the state of creation, becomes clearer. I feel freed and raised up above my limited consciousness.”

The Dalles Art Center welcomes visitors to “draw their own conclusions” of the artist’s work. An artist lecture and other adjunct programs are planned.
